Now that a new era of the One Piece TCG has begun, the first set to kick things off features cards from the ST30 Luffy & Ace Starter Deck. This deck highlights the legendary brothers together on a single Leader card. We have already seen dual Leaders before, starting with Zoro & Sanji in ST13 and later Ace & Whitebeard in ST22. With the new rotation coming into effect, Luffy & Ace becomes the first dual Leader introduced in this new format. The Japanese release is scheduled for April 11, 2026
The Luffy & Ace Leader has an interesting effect. If you have a character with an original power of 7000 or more, this Leader gets -2000 power. However, during the opponent’s turn, all of your Portgas D. Ace and Monkey D. Luffy characters gain +3000 power. On paper, this looks like a very strong Leader. It starts with 7000 base power and 4 life, and its Leader type includes the Straw Hat Crew, Whitebeard Pirates, and Impel Down. This gives players a very wide range of cards to build with. Based on the Leader’s ability, we might also be looking at one of the first strong Rush-style decks in the new rotation format. Here’s the parallel version of the new leader card.
Two Super Rare cards have also been revealed, naturally featuring Luffy and Ace. The first SR is a green Luffy with 4 cost and 6000 power. When played, you may rest one of your DON!! cards to give this character Rush during that turn, allowing it to attack immediately. When attacking, it can rest up to one of your opponent’s characters with Blocker. This makes Luffy extremely dangerous in both the early and late game, since removing a blocker can open up attacks and apply strong pressure.
The second SR is an Ace card that also has 4 cost and 6000 power. Just like Luffy, when played you may rest one of your DON!! cards to give this character Rush for the turn so it can attack immediately. When Ace attacks, it gives up to one of your opponent’s characters -1000 power during the turn. Between the two cards, Luffy appears to have the stronger effect since resting a blocker can be very important for aggressive strategies, especially early in the game. However, Ace’s power reduction could create interesting interactions depending on the matchup.
What do you think? Which cards could have the best synergy with Ace? Perhaps it was designed with mirror matchups in mind. Here are the parallel versions of these cards.
